Huge six for Mitchell Starc
Ravindra Jadeja looks distressed as Mitchell Starc catches fire with his first boundary with a big six, slogging over deep square after getting down on one knee and blasting the spinner over the boundary.
Steady work from Australia so far.

Carey brings up his 50!
Carey gets the first runs of the day, hitting a rather fortuitous four to bring him up for the half century, sweeping and beating fine leg to raise his bat.
A nice start for Carey, the former GWS Giants AFL player, starring at the home ground of the Brisbane Lions.
That is his 9th Test 50 for the wicket keeper who has looked extremely comfortable in the heat and humidity in Brisbane.

Starc and Carey make their way out to the middle
There are patchy showers expected, but we are still due to get underway as Mitchell Starc and Alex Carey make their way out to the middle to try and build on this impressive Australian innings.
Jasprit Bumrah will be hoping for some very early wickets.

Smith’s double trigger technique explained by the man himself
In his own words, Steve Smith explains his double trigger technique that helped power him to a long-overdue ton yesterday at the Gabba.
Manna from the heaven for the cricket tragics.
Guha apologises for calling Bumrah a ‘primate’
Fox Sports commentator Isa Guha has apologised for her comments yesterday when she used the word “primate” when referencing Indian player Jasprit Bumrah.
Guha said during the day two broadcast: “Well, he’s the MVP, isn’t he? Most valuable primate, Jasprit Bumrah.”
At the start of the Fox Sports broadcast ahead of day three, Guha apologised for her choice of words.
“If you listen to the full transcript, I only meant the highest praise for one of India’s greatest players and someone that I admire greatly as well,” she said.
“I’m an advocate for equality and someone who has spent their career thinking about inclusion and understanding in the game. I’m trying to frame the enormity of his achievements, and I’ve chosen the wrong word, and for that, I am deeply sorry.
“As someone who is also of South Asian heritage, I hope people would recognise that there was no other intention or malice there. I hope that this hasn’t overshadowed what has been a great Test match so far, and I look forward to seeing how it progresses. But yeah, once again, I’m really, really sorry.”
The weather gods are NOT smiling
There are ominous signs with rain clouds circling over the Gabba, it looks unlikely that we will get a full day’s play today.
All fingers crossed.
How Smudge kept the faith
In football, the age-old theory is that class is permanent and form is temporary, and Steve Smith reminded Australian cricket fans of his brilliant ability with the bat when it really matters.
The Border-Gavaskar Series has swung back in favour of Australia and Tom Decent takes us through to the heart of Smith’s memorable innings that will do the Test veteran’s confidence no harm.
Here is the piece here on how Smith returned to form when it mattered.
Welcome to day three
Welcome back to another hot and steamy day at the Gabba, with Australia looking very comfortable ahead of day three.
I’m Jonathan Drennan and I will be taking you through today’s action.
We also have the dynamic duo of Tom Decent and Daniel Brettig bringing expert analysis live from the Gabba.
It was a wonderful return to form for Steve Smith yesterday, as he made a well overdue century (101 from 190 balls) and Travis Head took on the Indian attack with 152 off 160 balls.
Alex Carey also helped push the team to 7-405 by stumps with an unbeaten 44 from 47 deliveries.
Day three remains poised with India’s Jasprit Bumrah acting almost as a one-man bowling attack. He has figures of 5-72.
A big day ahead for Australia, but only if the weather plays nicely.
