Warner substitution complete

The ICC has tweeted that David Warner has been subbed out of the match with concussion and Matthew Renshaw has been named as his replacement.

Players can be replaced due to concussion so Renshaw will bat in Warner’s place in the second innings.

Play is beginning now with Sharma and Rahul at the crease and Matthew Kuhnemann bowling.

Australian debutante Matthew Kuhnemann made a lifetime goal into a reality on Friday, now he faces the reality of trying to bowl out India in Delhi as day two of the second Test begins.

Australia are defending its first-innings total of 263 and India resume on 0-21 after batting out the last nine overs on Friday.

“It was a dream come true and such an amazing experience,” Kuhnemann told broadcasters on Saturday before play.

“To get my first test camp from Marnus [Labuschagne], who is a good mate of mine, was unbelievable.”

Kuhnemann has only played 13 first-class matches for Queensland but he has been working on bowling on the sub-continent during Cricket Australia spin development camps.

He was called up to join the team for its Tests in Sri Lanka last year which also helped him.

“My experience in Sri Lanka has put me in good stead for this Test match and I’ve been working on bowling in subcontinent conditions for the last few years,” Kuhnemann told broadcasters.

“I was pretty happy we won the toss so I could watch the India spinners go about it. I watched [Ravindra] Jadeja, Axar [Patel] and [Ravichandran] Ashwin in how they use the crease and their pace.

“I took a bit from that.”

“Out of the blue’: Renshaw gets unexpected chance

By Roy Ward

Australian great Allan Border sees Matthew Renshaw’s “out of the blue” elevation into the side for the rest of the second Test in Delhi as a chance for the batter to make his claim to stay in the team.

Renshaw was dropped after the first Test following two low scores but he was unexpectedly returned to the team for the rest of this match including Australia’s second innings after Warner was found to have concussion and subbed out of the game.

“It’s a good opportunity for Renshaw out of the blue,” Border said on Fox Sports on Saturday.

“It could be a bit like Marnus Labuschagne in England when he came in for Steve Smith and took his chance.”

Former Australian star Michael Hussey said despite Warner’s struggles with form, his absence would hurt the team.

“It didn’t look easy for him batting out there,” Hussey said.

“It’s a big loss for Australia.”

The subbing is expected to be finalised later this morning (local time) when the paperwork is completed with the ICC after the team arrives at the ground for the second day of play.

Warner was hit on the helmet and the arm by India paceman Mohammed Siraj during a rugged innings of 15 on the first day.

New low blow for Warner but Australia find some runs in India

David Warner is battered and bruised and his future in the baggy green hangs in the balance as Australia’s bold new approach with the bat was not enough to overcome their spin woes in the second Test.

The veteran finished the day off the field nursing a sore head and arm after a rugged innings that raised more questions over his place in the XI.

Warner’s fitness will be assessed on Saturday, but if he has developed concussion symptoms he can be subbed out of the game.

“I think the medical staff will have to assess tomorrow,” Usman Khawaja said after play.

“He (Warner) is a little bit weary at the moment. He obviously got a knock to the arm and then to the head and the head has made him a little bit weary at the moment and hence why didn’t come out to field.

“I think the medical staff will have to figure out what happens from here on in.”
