Arsenal have increased their lead at the top of the Premier League table to five points with a hard-fought victory over Leicester City at the Emirates Stadium.
The Gunners took the lead after just five minutes when Mesut Ozil fired home a low shot from the edge of the area. The German international was at the heart of Arsenal’s attack for much of the game and his goal set the tone for a dominant first-half performance.
Leicester City, however, fought back in the second half and equalised through Jamie Vardy’s close-range finish. The Foxes had several chances to take the lead but were unable to find a way past Petr Cech in the Arsenal goal.
The game looked to be heading for a draw until Olivier Giroud popped up with a late winner for the Gunners. The French striker was on hand to convert a cross from Hector Bellerin in the 88th minute and secure all three points for Arsenal.
The result means that Arsenal now have a five-point lead at the top of the Premier League table, with Leicester City dropping to third place. It was a crucial victory for Arsene Wenger’s side and one that will give them a huge boost in their quest for the title.
The win also extended Arsenal’s unbeaten run to 13 games in all competitions, and they will be looking to continue their impressive form when they face West Bromwich Albion next weekend.
Overall, it was a hard-fought victory for Arsenal over an in-form Leicester City side, and one that has seen them extend their lead at the top of the Premier League table to five points. With just nine games left to play, it looks like Arsenal are in pole position to win their first league title since 2004.
