6AM – BIG POWER PLANS FACE OFF SWITCH WITHOUT RARE PLAYER SWAP DEAL
Port Adelaide looms as the busiest club over the next 60 hours, with six or seven players potentially coming and going before Wednesday night’s deadline, and it won’t be easy.
That’s especially if Essendon tries to play hardball on a deal involving key defender Brandon Zerk-Thatcher and winger Xavier Duursma.
The Herald Sun reports the Bombers are more than happy to keep Zerk-Thatcher, having only gathered interest in former Power first-round pick Duursma because of their talks with Port Adelaide over the former.
It means Essendon could say it’s a straight swap between the pair of players or nothing – which would hurt the Power’s ability to complete their other deals.
With Geelong knocking back their offer of pick 25 for Esava Ratugolea, the Power may need the additional pick coming along with Zerk-Thatcher to then on-trade it and satisfy the Cats.
They’re also still hopeful of luring Richmond’s Ivan Soldo though he is contracted and the Tigers are very keen to keep him, while Bulldogs ruck Jordon Sweet appears likely to head to Alberton for a pick in the 40s.
If they sign one or two of their ruck targets the Power could then move on Scott Lycett and/or Sam Hayes, while Orazio Fantasia and Tom Clurey are also up for grabs.
