6AM – DOCKER SHOCKER TIPPED TO SPARK RACE FOR PIES FAVOURITE AS SAINT GAINS INTEREST

The biggest surprise of the official AFL trade period dropped on Monday evening when Fremantle forward Lachie Schultz lodged a trade request to get to Collingwood.

Schultz plays a unique role, something of a tall small forward, combining excellent pressure but isolated one-on-one abilities – the latter similar to Jamie Elliott – but if his move to the Magpies is completed, it’s expected to place more pressure on Jack Ginnivan to hold his spot in Craig McRae’s best side.

That’s why multiple clubs are tipped to explore Ginnivan’s ability over the coming days, reports AFL Media.

The 20-year-old is contracted for the 2024 season but was named in the starting side just nine times in 2023, including the Grand Final win over Brisbane.

Schultz is a free agent after the 2024 season, after being delisted in 2020, with the Dockers tipped to drive a hard bargain for the Victorian.

Meanwhile St Kilda wingman Dan McKenzie has gathered interest from multiple clubs with Gold Coast currently the keenest, reports AFL Media.

McKenzie hasn’t played at senior level since last June due to a series of calf issues but when fit under former coach Brett Ratten was a first-choice player.

The 27-year-old is yet to be offered a contract for next season at the Saints meaning he looms as a priority delisted free agent option for opposition sides, at the very least.
