Blues make key off-field signing

Carlton have secured Collingwood’s premiership-winning ex-football boss Graham Wright to take over as chief executive from Brian Cook in an orderly handover.

An industry source with knowledge of the situation said Wright would join the Blues in a senior role. As reported by this masthead earlier this month, Wright will work under Cook, the game’s longest-serving and most decorated club chief executive, until later next year when Wright will then take over as CEO.

Wright was being courted by Adelaide and had preliminary discussions with the AFL about joining their football operations department.

Cook, Blues president Luke Sayers and the board were all involved in Wright’s appointment.

The Blues will announce the key signature on Wednesday.
