Power make offer for Ratugolea

By Peter Ryan

Port Adelaide have pick No.33 on the table for Geelong big man Esava Ratugolea who has indicated a desire to be traded to Port.

Ratugolea has one year remaining on his contract and the Cats want to retain him but with the Magpies refusing to yield on their desire for a first-round draft pick for Oliver Henry, pick 33 may come in handy if Geelong try to improve on their offer of pick 25.

LISTEN: ‘The biggest game of chicken in the trade period’

In this trade period special episode of the Real Footy podcast, Jake Niall and Michael Gleeson discuss the action from day six of trade period, including the groundbreaking four-way deal that got Jason Horne-Francis to Port Adelaide, and look at the state of play in the deals that haven’t yet been done.

Jackson trade opens the path for Grundy – but there’s a hitch

By Michael Gleeson, Jake Niall and Jon Pierik

While Luke Jackson’s trade to Fremantle has opened the path for Melbourne to secure Collingwood’s Brodie Grundy, the Demons have rejected a push by the Magpies to swap first round picks as part of the trade for the ruckman.

Melbourne have offered pick 27 for the two-time All-Australian ruckman, who is contracted to Collingwood for five more years on more than $4.5 million. Collingwood have offered to pay some of Grundy’s contract at Melbourne.

While the Grundy deal is still likely, the Magpies have said they are prepared to keep the ruckman if they do not get an improvement on the terms of the trade.

Giants make late bid for O’Meara

By Jake Niall and Michael Gleeson

Greater Western Sydney have made a surprise late bid for Hawthorn’s star midfielder Jaeger O’Meara, meaning the Hawks could potentially trade out both O’Meara and Brownlow medallist Tom Mitchell in the next 48 hours.

With a deal for inside midfielder Jacob Hopper to Richmond likely to go through and reunite him with Tim Taranto at Punt Road, the Giants are looking for experienced support and have made enquiries with Hawthorn about O’Meara, club sources confirmed.

The 28-year-old is contracted for one more year at the Hawks on significant money but could sign a new multi-year contract at GWS on revised terms. Hawthorn could also contribute to his salary next year. But the club is still grappling with the prospect of trading O’Meara out and whether a deal can be done.

Greetings, everybody

By Ronny Lerner

Hello and welcome to our live rolling coverage of day seven of the 2022 AFL trade period.

And if we see half the action that we did yesterday, then we’re in for another drama-filled day.

To say Monday was moving day of the trade period would be an understatement, as Luke Jackson, Izak Rankine, Jason Horne-Francis and Junior Rioli all found new homes.

Will Setterfield and Toby Bedford also joined new clubs.

Those moves took the grand total of players to have crossed to new clubs this trade/free agency period to 20.

But that tally looks set to grow even further with the likes of Brodie Grundy, Josh Dunkley, Jacob Hopper and Tom Mitchell still yet to arrive at their new clubs.

Stay tuned to this blog throughout the day for all the latest trade moves, breaking news and analysis.
