Lions to get a boost with son of greats
Will Ashcroft, son of triple premiership Lion Marcus Ashcroft, is lined-up to follow in his father’s bootsteps and join Brisbane as a father-son selection at this year’s national draft.
He’s confident he can make an immediate impact at the Lions, as reported by Peter Ryan.
“I place some pretty high expectations on myself. I always credit back my performance to my preparation and everything that goes on behind the scenes, so if I can continue to do that I think I have an impact straight away,” Ashcroft said.
He’s not the only one who thinks this either, as Roy Ward reported yesterday, Brisbane Lions captain Dayne Zorko is so impressed with Ashcroft and fellow father-son player Jaspa Fletcher, son of Adrian Fletcher, that he has backed both to play senior football for the Lions in 2023.
“I firmly believe that Will is definitely [ready for senior football next year] and I trained with Jasper the other day and if Will wasn’t there, you would be saying Jaspa is going to be the number one pick,” Zorko told SEN Queensland on Friday.
“This kid is incredible. Will is a cut above, at the moment, but Jaspa has the work ethic and capability to go toe-to-toe with him.”
