Another of the AFL’s most senior figures is set to leave footy with fixture boss Travis Auld poached to become the boss of the Australian Grand Prix Corporation.
The Age reports Auld is the sole preferred candidate for the role, replacing Andrew Westacott, and “it would be a shock if another candidate emerged”.
Auld was one of the runners-up in the race to replace Gill McLachlan as CEO, eventually won by colleague Andrew Dillon.

He is currently the AFL’s chief financial officer and manager of broadcasting, clubs and fixtures, leading the construction of each season’s draw.
Auld was previously the CEO of the Gold Coast Suns and chief operating officer at Essendon.
In his expected new role Auld will run the Formula 1 Australia Grand Prix, held at Albert Park, plus the Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix, held at Phillip Island.
Victoria recently secured the rights to the F1 race until 2037 with some talk in the motorsport industry about moving it to a night timeslot.
Auld’s exit is another blow to the AFL who are without a permanent head of football. He is currently playing a role in the ongoing AFL pay negotiations.
