Max is back: skipper makes his return

In huge relief for Melbourne, captain Max Gawn will resume his formidable partnership with Brodie Grundy tonight as he comes back from a knee injury.

The skipper returned to full training this week after missing three matches.

“He’s done a power of work, Gawny,” Simon Goodwin told media on Friday.

“He’s done all the work that he needs to do, and he feels really confident.”

Gawn and Grundy will no doubt look to expose Richmond’s makeshift ruck division.

Jake Lever and Micharl Hibberd both come in for Melbourne, while Charlie Spargo is out with concussion protocols.

No late changes

There are no late changes for either team tonight.

Substitutes:

  • Bailey Laurie for Melbourne
  • Huge Ralphsmith for Richmond

Good evening!

Good evening footy fans and welcome to tonight’s rolling coverage of the AFL.

We’ll be blogging all the live action from the huge Anzac Day eve clash between Melbourne and Richmond at the MCG.

Last year, the Demons nudged a 22-point win out of a fierce arm wrestle, in no small part due to Brownlow favourite Clayton Oliver, who racked up 41 disposals.

Tonight, both sides will be looking to bounce back after round five losses, Melbourne to Essendon by 27-points and Richmond to Sydney by 44-points.

The Dees are favourites, but anything could happen between these two spirited sides.
