Australia’s future cricketing stars are hoping to continue the nation’s dominance over India in ICC finals, as they face off in the Under-19 World Cup final in Benoni, South Africa overnight (from 7pm AEDT).
The senior Aussie side has won two straight finals against India, the WTC Championship plus the one-day World Cup crown, while the juniors are trying to claim their first crown since 2010, when Mitchell Marsh led the charge.
Twice they’ve faced India in the final and fallen short, with Australia having not beaten the powerhouse nation at the Under-19 World Cup since 1998 (six consecutive losses. India is going for its sixth title from nine final appearances.

Australia has struggled at times throughout the tournament, falling to 87-5 against the West Indies before Sam Konstas fired a critical 108, while in the semi-final against Pakistan Tom Straker ripped through with 6-24 but the top order flailed again, requiring a 10th-wicket stand of 17 for the Aussies to hit the winning runs in the final over.
Harry Dixon, who models his game on David Warner, has hit three half-centuries in the tournament while tearaway Callum Vidler has fired throughout.
