Done deal! Richmond set to land Giants star as hefty asking price revealed

Tim Taranto will officially become a Tiger as soon as Monday, with reports an in-principle deal has been struck ahead of day one of the AFL Trade Period.

The Age reports the Giants midfielder will land at Richmond in one of the first trades on Monday morning.

“A source with knowledge of the discussions said the Giants and Richmond met in Sydney on Friday and agreed a deal,” journalist Michael Gleeson wrote.

Despite GWS teammate Jacob Hopper also nominating Richmond as his club of choice, Taranto’s deal has been handled separately as he is out of contract.

According to the report, the deal will see Richmond part with both picks 12 and 19 for Taranto.

It is expected the Tigers will receive a future later pick along with the midfielder.

Hopper still has another year to run on his deal with the Giants, with that contract expected to slow progress on trade talks.

It is still believed the Tigers will have to part with both pick 30 and their future first-round pick next year for Hopper; while a deal that sees ruckman Ivan Soldo head north could also still eventuate.

GWS will be one of the biggest players in this Trade Period, given Hopper and Taranto are just two of four players prepared to depart.

Small forward Bobby Hill will land at Collingwood, likely for a future second-round pick.

Hill unsuccessfully tried to return to Victoria at the end of 2021 but the Giants couldn’t get a deal done. Now out-of-contract, Hill has been searching for a new home for his family in Melbourne for more than a month after the club confirmed a deal would be done.

Tanner Bruhn is the fourth player wanting to exit the Giants – and he’s expected to land at Geelong, where he played his junior footy for the Falcons.

Bruhn had been in the Cats’ sights back in his 2020 draft year, but GWS were able to snap him up with pick 7 after Geelong coughed up three first-round draft picks for Giant Jeremy Cameron.

The Age also reports Brisbane are prepared to offer their future first-round draft pick for Josh Dunkley, after the midfielder informed the Bulldogs he wanted to be with family in Queensland.
