Arryn Siposs has landed a coaching role at Hawthorn after being cut by Philadelphia Eagles

The NFL exit of Super Bowl punter Arryn Siposs is complete after the former Philadelphia Eagles superboot landed a coaching role with AFL club Hawthorn.

Siposs, who made the move to the NFL after a playing 28 games for St Kilda, was axed by the Eagles at the end of August, on the back of a match-defining mistake in February’s Super Bowl loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

A poor Siposs punt in the final quarter of the match was returned to within touching distance of the goal line by Kadarius Toney, which helped the Chiefs scored their match-winning touchdown on the way to a three-point win.

Siposs had played 32 games for the Eagles but was waived by the club before this season began, was added to the practice squad before being released in September.

He unsuccessfully tried out for a spot with the Arizona Cardinals before opting to return to Melbourne with his wife and daughter with an aim to work in the AFL.

The 31-year-old was set to coach VFL club Williamstown but secured a role as a development coach with the Hawks under head coach Sam Mitchell and as part of a revamped coaching unit.

“Arryn joins our club with great experience and perspective following exposure across two high performance environments, in the AFL and NFL, which we believe will benefit our program immensely,” Hawthorn General Manager of Football Rob McCartney said.

“We see him being a great fit for our talented young list and helping develop players, both on and off the field.

“We believe our entire coaching team is well balanced to continue developing our young list and giving them every opportunity to succeed.”

Hawthorn has finalised its coaching panel for 2024 with Adrian Hickmott and David Mackay securing new roles ahead of the start of pre-season, following the return of Brett Ratten in September after he opted to leave his role at North Melbourne.
