Geelong is threatening a major AFLW finals boilover, taking a 19-point lead into halftime against reigning premiers Melbourne.
The Cats, who finished sixth in the home and away season, allowed a goal after the halftime siren but otherwise dominated the opening stages in their semi-final at Ikon Park to lead 4.5 (29) to 1.4 (10).
It sees the Demons on the brink of a shocking finals exit, just two weeks after they went into the final round on the brink of the AFLW minor premiership.

Instead the 2022 season seven premiers, after losing to Brisbane in the last round and then North Melbourne in their qualifying final, could follow the men’s side by being knocked out of the finals series in straight sets.
