Jimbo Fisher fired by Texas A&M despite $75 million left on contract

Jimbo Fisher is going to get paid a lot of money to go away from Texas A&M.

The school on Sunday fired the 58-year-old, who has eight years left on his contract and will receive a buyout upward of $US75 million ($A120m), according to Yahoo Sports.

School officials met on Thursday to weigh Fisher’s future with the football program, according to multiple reports, and the decision has been made to dump the coach in the middle of a disappointing 6-4 season.

“After very careful analysis of all the components related to Texas A&M football, I recommended to President [Mark] Welsh and then Chancellor [John] Sharp that a change in the leadership of the program was necessary in order for Aggie football to reach our full potential and they accepted my decision,” Texas A&M athletics director Ross Bjork said in a statement.
