WINES TRADE SPECULATION PLAYED DOWN
The Cats aren’t expected to make a play for Brownlow Medallist Ollie Wines amid speculation Geelong has interest in him, reports the Herald Sun.
It comes as a trade showdown looms between Port Adelaide and Geelong over a deal for Esava Ratugolea, who’s told the Cats he wants to be traded to the South Australian-based club, despite coach Chris Scott’s eagerness to retain the uncontracted key defender.
Former Crow and FIVEaa radio host Stephen Rowe on Friday reported Wines was “on the radar of Chris Scott”.
“(My source) and me aren’t saying he (Wines) is going,” Rowe said on his FIVEaa radio program. “He’s signed until 2026, but you think about it: “If you’re Chris Scott and you’ve just lost (Joel) Selwood, (Isaac) Smith’s retired, and Paddy (Dangerfield) … I don’t expect him to carry the load he did.
“We know with Chris Scott, he likes to top up and re-top. What do they need? A bull.

“No one is saying whatsoever he wants to go, but conversations will be had – and that’s the name they want.”
The Herald Sun on Sunday night reported Wines isn’t a priority for the Cats.
Wines, who’s contracted to Port for another three years, spent ample time on the wing this season as Connor Rozee, Zak Butters and Jason Horne-Francis became Ken Hinkley’s go-to on-ball brigade.
Cats list boss Andrew Mackie last week hinted the Cats would be open to moving on its first draft selection, which is currently Pick 7, but only for the right deal.
“To be clear, it‘s got to appease a lot of what we need to be doing and as I said there are parts on the ground that I think we need to attend to over the next little bit, but we are open to it, but we aren’t open to everything,” Mackie told AFL Media’s ‘Gettable’ podcast.
HENRY’S VALUE UP IN THE AIR
Fremantle and St Kilda will start trade talks over wantaway Docker Liam Henry with differing views on his value, reports the Herald Sun.
The Dockers in late August confirmed Henry had requested to be traded in the upcoming AFL exchange period after playing 43 games in four seasons.
The Herald Sun on Sunday night reported St Kilda was keen to retain a strong 2023 draft hand and would initially offer up a future third-round pick for Henry to Fremantle, which will ask for at least a future second-rounder. Reports last month suggested the Dockers were keen for a selection between Picks 15 and 25 in return for losing Henry.

Henry graduated from the club’s Next Generation Academy program, with the Dockers matching Carlton’s bid on him at Pick 9 in the 2019 national draft.
Dockers football boss Peter Bell in August said his club would “have this investment and his talent as a winger front of mind when looking to facilitate a trade”.
Henry was one of the Dockers’ success stories during their disappointing 2023 campaign, cementing his spot in the best 22 after the mid-season bye and averaging 23.7 disposals from his last 10 games.
