MORE INTEREST IN VETERAN ROOS RUCK

A new club has emerged as a genuine contender for outgoing North Melbourne ruck Todd Goldstein, reports the Herald Sun.

Goldstein, 35, last week told the Kangaroos of his intention to look for a new club after playing 315 games across 17 seasons for North.

Multiple outlets last week reported Essendon had shown interest in Goldstein — who was an All-Australian and North best and fairest winner in 2015 when current Bombers coach Brad Scott was at the helm at the Roos.

But the Herald Sun on Wednesday reported Collingwood was “in the box seat” to secure Goldstein, who’d also attracted interest from St Kilda according to the report.

The Pies, who traded Brodie Grundy to Melbourne 12 months ago, swung Billy Frampton into the ruck at times this year when Mason Cox and Darcy Cameron were sidelined through injury.

The Bombers have sounded out Goldstein about the possibility of joining them to provide ruck depth for Sam Draper and Nick Bryan.

The Magpies have also been linked to Adelaide free agent Tom Doedee, who’s also weighing up interest from Brisbane and Sydney.

FRINGE DOG NOW GOOD CHANCE TO STAY

The “tide has turned a little” regarding fringe Bulldogs utility Buku Khamis’ footy future, according to SEN reporter Sam Edmund.

Several clubs, including Collingwood and North Melbourne, have been circling Khamis, who’s played 10 games for the Bulldogs since being plucked out of the club’s Next Generation Academy program in late 2018.

Despite kicking 41.21 from 18 VFL matches this year for Footscray, Khamis only played one game for the Bulldogs’ AFL side, which featured fellow key forwards Jamarra Ugle-Hagan, Rory Lobb and Aaron Naughton inside 50.

But after weighing up his options, Khamis is now a good chance to remain a Bulldog, according to Edmund.

“Speaking to people (on Wednesday), I think it’s now more likely that Buku stays at the Dogs. It’s not guaranteed, but I think he’s been won back over by that club,” Edmund told SEN’s Whateley.

“Only one opportunity at AFL level this year and out of contact, so you can certainly understand him moving on if he did choose that.

“But I just think the tide has turned a little bit on Buku Khamis staying at the Dogs.”
