BOMBERS MIDFIELDER LINKED TO MOVE
Essendon midfielder Dylan Shiel is reportedly in the mix for a move to St Kilda as the Bombers look to free up even more salary cap space.
The Herald Sun reports the Bombers and Saints could thrash out a deal that effectively sees Jade Gresham and Shiel switch clubs.
It explains the Bombers could offer Gresham enough to trigger first-round free agency compensation, which would then see the Saints more willing to part ways with a high-end draft pick in exchange for Shiel.
Given the intricacies, the AFL would need to approve the move, as it did with the Gold Coast Suns’ deal with Geelong last year that saw Jack Bowes and pick No.7 traded to the Cats in a bid to get Bowes’ salary off the Suns’ books.
Shiel has played 211 senior games across stints at Greater Western Sydney and Essendon and was All-Australian in 2017.
The 30-year-old managed just 12 games in the Bombers’ senior side this season, including stints as the tactical substitute.
Gresham remains without a contract for 2024 and is exploring his free agency options.

RUCK MERRY-GO-ROUND INTENSIFIES
A host of ruck movement looks set to continue, with Brynn Teakle one of several players who could be set for a new AFL home.
AFL Media reports North Melbourne, the Western Bulldogs and Greater Western Sydney are interested in the delisted Port Adelaide ruckman, with the latter side set for a ruck shake up.
Teakle was delisted by the Power, a year-and-a-half after being taken in the mid-season draft, but the 23-year-old looks set to continue his AFL career elsewhere.
Giants rucks Braydon Preuss and Matt Flynn are also weighing up their futures after the emergence of Kieren Briggs in 2023.
Flynn has been linked to the West Coast Eagles, while Preuss has failed to play a senior game this year despite overcoming a back injury.
“North Melbourne and the Western Bulldogs we know are both in the market to try and find a backup ruckman. They’re both interested in Brynn Teakle,” reporter Josh Gabelich said on SEN’s Sportsday.
“So are the Giants who have got an interesting situation with Braydon Preuss and Matt Flynn both out of contract. They expect to lose one of them, potentially both of them, during this period. They could be in the market for a backup ruckman.
“I dare say if Preuss doesn’t find another suitor he’ll get another deal there because Matt Flynn finds a way to West Coast this trade period. They really like Bailey Williams but they’re looking for more coverage and Matt Flynn is one of them.”
