Richmond has decided on their new senior coach with Adem Yze confirmed as Damien Hardwick’s successor.

The long-time Melbourne assistant has beaten out Tigers interim coach Andrew McQualter for the job full-time.

Yze, 46, has long been seen as a senior coach in waiting, finishing runner up to Adam Kingsley at the Giants and Brad Scott at Essendon.

Since Melbourne’s season ended last Friday night, Yze’s involvement with the Tigers lengthy process stepped up a gear, having formal meetings and presentations with the Tigers hierarchy.

Yze played 271 games at Melbourne and previously spent time at Hawthorn as an assistant coach under Alastair Clarkson before crossing back to the Demons in 2021.

McQualter spent 13 games at the helm of the Tigers following Hardwick’s departure, finishing with a 7-6 win-loss record.

On Thursday, it was revealed Hawthorn forward Jacob Koschitzke had requested to be traded to the Tigers in the upcoming exchange period.
