ROOSTERS SET TO OFFLOAD FORMER MAROONS BACK

The Roosters are set to offload former Queensland Origin representative Corey Allan ahead of the 2024 pre-season.

The Daily Telegraph reported Allan will not be offered a contract at the club for next season, which will end his 12-month stay at the Bondi club since switching from the Bulldogs.

Allan struggled to break into a star-studded Roosters backline with James Tedesco, Joseph Manu, Billy Smith, Daniel Tupou, Joseph Suaalii and Junior Pauga ahead of him in the pecking order.

However, given the club’s injuries Allan still played 13 games across the centre and wing positions for the Roosters in 2023, scoring two tries.

The 25-year-old has scored 13 tries in 63 NRL games in stints with the Rabbitohs, Bulldogs and Roosters since his debut in 2019.

He played his one and only game for the Maroons in their victorious 2020 series under Wayne Bennett after Queensland were plagued with injuries.

Allan will likely not be lost to the NRL and would be a handy pick-up for non top eight teams like the Tigers and the Dragons given his versatility and ability to cover every position in the outside backs.

Meanwhile, Nathan Brown also faces an uncertain future at the club after switching from the Eels to the Roosters in 2023.

The 30-year-old has scored six tries in 148 NRL games for the Tigers, Rabbitohs, Eels and Roosters, but is not seen as part of the club’s future plans.

Other off-contract Roosters players include Drew Hutchison, Jake Turpin and Connor Watson who have all been linked to the Bulldogs and Billy Smith, who is expected to be offered a new deal.

TRI-COLOURS JOIN RACE FOR SOUTHS ENFORCER

The Sydney Roosters have reportedly become the latest club to show an interest in signing South Sydney Rabbitohs forward Keaon Koloamatangi.

Koloamatangi is off-contract at the end of 2024 and is free to negotiate with rivals as of November 1.

Channel 9’s Danny Weidler reported on 100% Footy, the Roosters are the latest club to show interest in prying the Blues back-rower away from Souths.

“We all know the Keaon has had an interest from the Raiders and they’re supposed to be interested in around the $900,000 mark because he’s going to be available in November and that’s big money,” Weidler said on 100% Footy.

“But in the background … the Roosters are lurking, they’re looking carefully at him and you’d think the Roosters have enough in their team, their back row but there’s a bit of talk that (they’ll have a crack).

“Sitili Tupouniua’s got another year so he could be someone who may not be there long term, although the Roosters do love him.”

Earlier this season News Corp reported that the Rabbitohs were prepared to offer Koloamatangi a two-year extension until the end of 2026, but talks have been delayed since then.

Souths coach Jason Demetriou revealed the hold up to the Koloamatangi talks earlier this year.

“Keaon went into Origin at the time we were negotiating, we’re at the back end of the year now, so [those talks] have been put on hold until the end of the season,” Demetriou told The Sydney Morning Herald.

“We have a great relationship with Keaon, and we have every intention of making sure he stays at the club long term, especially off the back of Cam Murray re-signing. Those two guys have played footy together since they were seven.”

The 25-year-old has scored 15 tries in 82 NRL games for South Sydney since his debut in 2020, but has recently been linked with the Raiders, Dragons and now the Roosters.
