Tigers fans spark external review after back-to-back spoons and years of turmoil

The owners of the Wests Tigers have reportedly commissioned a review of the club’s operations after winning their second wooden spoon in consecutive years.

The review comes after a meeting with furious fans of the embattled club, with more than 2000 signing a petition urging for a club overhaul.

The Daily Telegraph is reporting the review will be conducted by former NRL chief financial officer Tony Crawford and managing director of Cooperage Capital Pty Ltd Gary Barnier.

“The board of the Holman Barnes Group has commissioned an independent report into the governance of Wests Tigers,” the club said to News Corp.

“The board would like to thank all members and fans of Wests Tigers for their feedback in relation to this matter, especially all those that took the time to sign the petition that was submitted through the hosts of Wests Tigers podcast.

“While we are unable to set a specific time frame for the completion of the report, we are hopeful it is completed in a timely manner.”

The Holman Barnes Group is the trading name for the Western Suburbs Leagues Club Limited according to the SMH, owning 90 per cent of the Wests Tigers club.

The Tigers reportedly launched a bold bid to recruit respected head of football Peter Parr and pry him away from the Knights.

He reportedly turned the approach down while assistant coach David Furner was also told his services were no longer needed by head coach Benji Marshall.

No timeline has reportedly been given for the independent review to be announced.

Chief executive Justin Pascoe and chairman Lee Hagipantelis have consistently come under fire in recent years off the back of poor on-field performances.

Pascoe has been in charge at the merger club for almost 10 years, being the subject of several fan protests this season.
