RIVALS ‘UNWILLING’ TO LURE PIES STAR AWAY
St Kilda is reportedly “unwilling” to offer Jordan de Goey the monster deal it would take to lure him away from Collingwood for 2023 and beyond.
De Goey, a free agent, has endured a tumultuous year with his new deal with Collingwood famously pulled after his Bali nightspot antics during the Mid-Season bye.
But after returning to Australia, De Goey has let his footy do the talking and was one of the Magpies best in the late stages of the year.
Collingwood coach Craig McRae has repeatedly said he hopes De Goey stays at the Magpies.
It’s believed the Pies are willing to put a behavioural clause into a new deal for De Goey – reportedly worth up to $800,000 per year.
According to the Herald Sun, St Kilda made an “impressive pitch” to De Goey about heading to Moorabbin.
But they are unwilling to cough up the reported $1 million per season it would take to convince De Goey to move clubs.
HEPPELL TO STAY AT BOMBERS
Essendon captain Dyson Heppell has indicated he’ll stay at the club in 2023.
Heppell had been linked to a move to Gold Coast, but that interest has cooled in recent weeks.
Speaking to 7NEWS about his future while walking the Brownlow Medal red carpet on Sunday night, the 30-year-old suggested he could remain at Essendon.
“Yeah look, I certainly think I’ll stay at the Bombers,” he said.
“Things are playing out in terms of the coach and hopefully we get a good one there.
“And we get the club back on track.”
