Late in the first quarter of Monday’s (AEST) game between the San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks, 49ers quarterback Trey Lance was carted off the field with his right leg in an air cast, and was ruled out for the rest of the game with an ankle injury.
Lance took a designed run for a 2-yard gain on second-and-8 before getting tackled by Seahawks defensive tackle, Bryan Mone, and linebacker Cody Barton. His right leg crumbled under both defensive players.

NFL WRAP: Brady fumes, stars ejected after wild all-in; 172kg Aussie beast’s debut goes wrong
Lance won the starting job over veteran quarterback and Tom Brady’s former backup, Jimmy Garoppolo, this offseason – one season after Garoppolo led the Niners to the NFC Championship game.
Garoppolo came into Sunday’s game after Lance suffered an injury.
The 49ers traded up to select Lance with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.
It was widely anticipated that the team would trade Garoppolo during the offseason, but the two sides agreed to a reworked contract that kept him as Lance’s backup entering the 2022 season.
