Tigers set to sign Dragons half on $2.2m four-year deal pending medical: Transfer Whispers

The Wests Tigers are set to announce the signing of Dragons halfback Jayden Sullivan on a four-year $2.2 million deal pending a medical clearance on Tuesday.

The Daily Telegraph reported the Tigers will announce Sullivan’s signing this week after he met with Tigers officials including coach Benji Marshall and recruitment boss Scott Fulton on Saturday.

Sullivan was granted permission by incoming Dragons coach Shane Flanagan to negotiate with rivals last month after he was deemed surplus to his future plans for the club.

The 21-year-old needs to pass a medical examination before his Tigers contract is registered with the NRL.

Sullivan is out for the season with a hamstring injury that has been an issue that has plagued him in his career to date.

The signing of Sullivan will not stop the Tigers’ plans to bring veteran playmaker Aiden Sezer to the club from the UK Super League.

Sezer will help develop Sullivan and fellow half signing Latu Fainu, who are seen as the club’s long-term halves pairing when the former Raiders halfback hangs up the boots.

Marshall and Fulton have not agreed on every signing, but were both in agreement over bringing Sullivan to the club.

Sullivan has scored seven tries and three goals in 27 games for the Dragons since his debut in 2020, but has been stuck behind Ben Hunt and Talatau Amone in the halves pecking order at St George Illawarra.

The young playmaker reportedly met with Knights officials as well, but Newcastle ultimately went for Panthers No.7 Jack Cogger as a back-up for Jackson Hastings amid Adam Clune’s departure.

The Dragons are set to plan their future around Talatau Amone and Hunt as their halves combination for 2024 and beyond.
