NSW secure grand final hosting rights with mammoth $10m 12-month deal

The NRL grand final will once again be played in Sydney in 2023 after reportedly agreeing to a multimillion-dollar deal with the NSW Government.

Despite interest from both Victorian and Queensland governments to steal the end-of-year showcase, the game will be played at Accor Stadium according to The Daily Telegraph.

ARLC chairmain Peter V’landys and sports minister Steve Kamper reportedly came to an agreement over the weekend.

However, V’landys would only agree to commit for 12 months, with the NSW Government forking out more than $10 million to retain the grand final.

Negotiations will reportedly continue as V’landys fights for funding to improve suburban NRL grounds including Brookvale Oval and Leichhardt.

Meanwhile, works to build the new $309 million Penrith Stadium will reportedly begin in late 2024.

The NSW Government’s huge outlay comes form a belief the state will reap the rewards in terms of interstate tourism.

NSW Premier Chris Minns is also eyeing a mammoth 20-year deal to secure the grand final hosting rights in the future according to News Corp.
