Djokovic was quick to heap praise on his rival for the victory, claiming he “lost to a better player” and “came up with some big plays in the big situation.”
However, when the 36-year-old was asked about his family, he became visibly emotional.
“It’s nice to see my son still there, still smiling,” Djokovic said before the tears began to flow.
“I love you. Thank you for supporting me and I will give you a big hug and we can all love each other.”

Prior to his emotional moment, Djokovic also conceded he didn’t expect he’d have a tough time competing against Alcaraz on the grass surface.
“I thought I would have trouble with you only on clay and hard court, but not on grass but now it’s a different story from this year obviously,” Djokovic said.
“I guess when all the emotions are settled I’ll have to be very grateful. I won many tight and close matches in the past here, to name a few — 2019 against Roger.
“Maybe I should have lost a few finals that I won so maybe this is even stevens.”
