Rohan kicks Cats first, Tucker for the Roos

North Melbourne’s Darcy Tucker has kicked the first goal of the day.

The second came from Geelong star forward Gary Rohan with the first goal for Cats, with a beautiful set shot.

He earned a kick from a tackle on his opponent and finished the job.

Not long after, Luke Davies-Uniacke, LDU, scored another for the Kangaroos.

So far, a good contest between the two.

We’re off!

The first game of the day is officially underway at GMHBA Stadium between Geelong and North Melbourne.

Will the Cats claw their way into the top eight or will the Kangas cause an upset?

Geelong defender Zach Tuohy breaks record

The AFL has congratulated Geelong defender Zach Tuohy who today will break Australian Football Hall of Famer Jim Stynes’ record for the most VFL/AFL games played by an Irish-born player.

Premiership player Tuohy, who hails from Portlaoise in County Laois, has played 264 AFL games, 120 for Carlton and 144 for Geelong.

“To play one senior AFL game is an achievement in itself, so to play 264 and today break the all-time record for an Irish-born player is an unbelievable milestone,” Mr McLachlan said via the AFL website.

“Zach has come a long way, literally, from his home town in Portlaoise, County Laois in Ireland, to his debut at Carlton in 2011. A Premiership at Geelong, a couple of top-three best and fairest finishes, and one of the best moustaches in the game.

“On behalf of the AFL, congratulations to Zach, Bec, their boys Flynn and Rafferty, a proud moment for their family and an even bigger moment in the history of our game.”

Late change for Kangaroos

North Melbourne have made a late change with George Wardlaw replaced in the selected side by Charlie Lazzaro.

Substitutes:

  • Oliver Dempsey for Geelong
  • Jack Ziebell for North Melbourne
