Clifford linked to homecoming as two NRL clubs eye former Cowboy: NRL Transfer Whispers

Jake Clifford could be heading home to the NRL amid reports two NRL clubs are interested in his services.

Clifford played 67 NRL games over stints with the Cowboys and Knights before signing Hull FC in the English Super League and is now a chance returning to Australia.

According to the report Brodie Croft and Penrith’s Jack Cogger have also been looked at by the Tigers.

Clifford still has a year to go on his deal with Hull but reportedly has a get-out clause should he receive an offer from an NRL club.

He was born and bred in Cairns and made his NRL debut for the Cowboys in 2018 and by 2020 was their first-choice halfback. But he soon fell out of favour and was granted an early release to join the Knights.

Clifford played 12 games for the Knights in 2022 but struggled to cement a permanent spot in the NRL side.

The Cowboys have halves Tom Dearden and Chad Townsend locked in until the end of 2024. The latter has been linked to an early exit but he has vehemently denied that and reaffirmed his commitment to the club.
