Cowboys lock up boom halfback as three players re-sign: Transfer Centre

The Cowboys have strengthened their depth by locking up the services of prop Jamayne Taunoa-Brown, back-rower Jack Gosiewski and halfback Tom Duffy.

“The North Queensland Toyota Cowboys have agreed to two-year contract extensions with Tom Duffy and Jack Gosiewski as well a one-year extension with Jamayne Taunoa-Brown,” the Cowboys said in a statement.

“We’re delighted to have finalised contract extensions for Tom, Jack and Jamayne,” Cowboys General Manager of Football Micheal Luck said.

FOX LEAGUE PODCAST – ORIGIN TEAMS & RECORD LOSSES

Fox Sports journalists Darcie McDonald and Eamonn Tiernan dissect all of the big ins and outs after NSW and Queensland announced their teams for Origin III. They also dive deeper into the Tigers’ and Bulldogs’ horror Round 18 losses. Listen NOW >

“Retaining local talent is always our priority when it comes to recruiting and considering Tom has been a part of our systems since he was 14, we are thrilled to extend him for another two years. He has developed well in his first season against men this year and we have high hopes for him moving forward.

“Jack has been terrific since arriving at the club. He is a great cultural fit and he provides us with versatility on the field through his ability to play both on the edge and as a middle.

“Jamayne probably flies a little under the radar due to some of the high-profile forwards in our squad, but has become an important member of our pack. He is excellent defensively, skilful with the ball and is highly regarded by our coaching staff.”

A homegrown North Queensland junior, Duffy came through the Cowboys Townsville Academy and Cowboys Young Guns program before graduating to the NRL squad in 2023.

The 2021 Australian Schoolboy halfback, Duffy is currently in his first season of senior rugby league with the Townsville Blackhawks in the Queensland Cup, registering three tries and seven try assists in 14 games.

Gosiewski is in his first campaign with the Cowboys after seven seasons in NSW with South Sydney, Manly and St George Illawarra.

The 29-year-old second-rower has made seven appearances for North Queensland this season, scoring two tries.

After playing under Todd Payten at the Warriors in 2020, Taunoa-Brown arrived in North Queensland prior to the 2022 season.

The 26-year-old front-rower has appeared in 31 games for the Cowboys, including 15 in 2023.

Taunoa-Brown has represented the Indigenous All Stars in each of the past four years.
