CROWS STAR IN NO RUSH ON FUTURE

Tom Doedee says he takes interest from rival clubs as a “compliment”, insisting he is in no rush to make a decision on his future.

Doedee, 26, comes out of contract at the end of 2023, with the gutsy defender drawing interest from the Brisbane Lions among other clubs.

He is currently on the sidelines for the rest of the season due to an ACL rupture he suffered in early June.

Speaking to Nine News Adelaide, Doedee said he welcomed the interest in his future.

“I take it as a compliment, any interest from other clubs,” he said.

“It means I’ve done something right in my career that people either like me on-field or off-field and what I bring … it’s a positive in that regard.”

Doedee is part of Adelaide’s leadership group and has been since 2020.

He has played 82 games for the Crows since being drafted in 2015.

AFL FLAGS MORE CONVERSATIONS ON TRADE MOVEMENT

AFL CEO-elect Andrew Dillon says clubs are continuing to push for ways to move on contracted players.

The AFL Players’ Association has in the past pushed back against mechanisms that take agency from players, but Dillon has flagged the league is looking to try continue to push for progress.

“When we‘ve been in discussions with the clubs, it’s about trying to balance up the economics and the way the trades work. We look at it as less trading without consent and (more) the way the clubs can lead trades,” Dillon told AFL Media’s Gettable.

“It‘s one that the (AFLPA) historically have pushed back on. What we’re looking to do is … can we add another alternative for clubs and for players to move around?

“If it was going to happen, I think there would be really tight parameters around it.

“As in, the players would have to have a long period of time on their contract, they would have to be getting paid over a certain amount, all of those sorts of things we‘ll have the discussions with the Players’ Association about.

“But it is something that’s been on the clubs’ horizon for a while.”
