TIGERS TARGET SHARKS PLAYMAKER TO FILL BROOKS VOID

The Tigers are circling Sharks halfback Braydon Trindall as a potential replacement for Manly bound No.7 Luke Brooks in 2024.

The Sydney Morning Herald reported the Tigers are interested in luring Trindall to the club to be their new halfback after Brooks’ departure.

However, the 23-year-old is contracted to the Sharks until the end of the 2025 season.

The club has have been on the lookout for a playmaker for some time, including the likes of Manly youngster Latu Fainu, Catalans Dragons veteran Mitchell Pearce and Eels star Mitchell Moses, but have been unable to land a big name.

Trindall is stuck behind Nicho Hynes and Matt Moylan at the Sharks and has to settle for the bench role or games when the frontline pair are injured or unavailable.

Trindall joined the Sharks in 2018 and has scored six tries and 128 points in 43 NRL games since his debut in 2020, but he has played just five games this season.

While he isn’t off-contract until the end of 2025, the Tigers are hopeful the Sharks could offer Trindall a release considering he is behind Hynes in the No.7 pecking order, with the Origin representative signed until 2029 on a monster long-term deal.

The Sharks have also re-signed young playmaker Daniel Atkinson, who offers cover for Hynes and Moylan, which would make them more willing to part ways with their back-up Trindall.

REYNOLDS’ BID FOR TWO YEAR BRONCOS EXTENSION

Broncos skipper Adam Reynolds wants to play on beyond his current contract as he hunts a possible two year extension to finish his career in Brisbane.

Reynolds is already signed until the end of 2024, but speaking to AAP, the 32-year-old flagged the possibility of playing until 2026 when he will be 36.

“I’ve still got another year left and hopefully another one or two after that,” Reynolds told AAP.

“I am in no rush (but) it’s something I would love to get sorted.

“I love the city, I love the club. It’s in a good place at the moment and I want to continue that rise.”

“There’s a number of ex-legends still getting around and it (creates) an aura.

“To add another piece of history to the place would be one of the best goals of my career.”

Reynolds has scored 46 tries and 2,154 points in 267 NRL games for Souths and Brisbane since his debut in 2012, winning a premiership in 2014, while he has also played two Origins for the Blues.

TIGERS URGED TO SIGN RETIRED COWBOYS LEGEND

The Tigers have been urged to make a bold play for retired Cowboys playmaker Michael Morgan to bolster their halves.

Luke Brooks’ switch to Manly and Adam Doueihi’s recovery from a third ACL injury has left the Tigers worryingly short of halves options.

Speaking on SEN radio, rugby league legends Scott Sattler and Mat Rogers believe the Tigers should go after Morgan, the 2015 premiership winning former Cowboys half.

“Michael Morgan, (he should) get fit, he would be a revelation,” Rogers said.

“He’d be healed up, get him training now for next year, he’ll be amazing, imagine getting him there, he’s got three or four years of good footy left in him.”

Sattler believes the Tigers could use Morgan’s experience and could manage his workloads throughout the year to allow him to be ready come finals time.

“He’s 31, he’s had two years (off), he’s had no contact,” Sattler said.

“He knows what it takes to be a winner and they sort of lacked that leadership at the club, so they’ll get a genuine leader.

“But also, like you said with sports science these days and recovery, and rehabilitation, you’re not asking a guy like Michael Morgan to play 27 games in a season.

“You may want to get (him) to 20 games and it’s enough to register him for the finals and that’s when those players go to another level, I like it.”

Morgan scored 58 tries in 168 games for the Cowboys from 2010 to 2021 and played 12 Origins for Queensland and 12 Tests for the Kangaroos, before he was medically retired due to repeated shoulder injuries.

SUPER LEAGUE CLUB RESPONDS TO LINKS TO KNIGHTS FORWARD

Warrington Wolves coach Daryl Powell has addressed reports linking the club to Knights forward Lachlan Fitzgibbon.

Wide World Of Sports reported Fitzgibbon has been linked to the Wolves after receiving interest from both the Super League and other NRL clubs.

Fitzgibbon’s management confirmed the Warrington Wolves were the frontrunner for his services.

Off-contract at the end of the season 2023, the back-rower has struggled with injuries and form over the past two seasons, playing just 19 games, but has already notched up 14 appearances this season.

“I won’t talk too much about that at the moment,” Wolves coach Daryl Powell told Love Rugby League about Fitzgibbon.

“We’ve got nothing confirmed at the minute.

“We’re looking at a few players obviously with what happened to us earlier in the season. We’ll talk about that when the time is right.”

The 29-year-old has scored 30 tries in 112 games for the Knights since his NRL debut in 2015.
