South Sydney trio Cameron Murray, Latrell Mitchell and Cody Walker have all passed fitness tests on Monday, but will not be able to complete a full field session until next Sunday if picked by Brad Fittler.
Blues doctor Nathan Gibbs and head physio Dan Lawson made the trip to Heffron Park to watch the players put through a series of tests, which they all passed.
“They’re all on track to play in ten days time, if picked, but the issue will be they will have limited training leading up to the game,” Gibbs told this masthead.
“It will be up to the coach if he takes them on with that proviso.
“Cam was able to do straight-line running, some side to side running, just some easy agility drills. Cody did straight-line drills, while Latrell did some indoor work, loading up the calf and getting some strength into it in preparation of running outside on Wednesday.
“The three of them would complete rehab running on Wednesday, modified team integration Friday, then full speed Sunday.”
Meanwhile, North Queensland confirmed Reece Robson will fly to Sydney later today after being informed he was in the Blues squad. The Cowboys were told Robson was in the 17, not merely the extended squad.
“I think it’s well deserved, he’s been really consistent for us now for well over a couple of years, his service is great from dummy-half, and he’ll tackle anything,” Payten said.
“He’s also rock-hard fit, which makes him tailor-made for Origin.”
Fittler and his trusty deputy Greg Alexander will make their way to CommBank Stadium to watch Parramatta and Canterbury on Monday afternoon, with a host of hopefuls – including No. 7 front-runner Mitchell Moses – to feature.
Alexander said Cronulla’s Nicho Hynes was still in the mix, despite a forgettable effort against Melbourne on Sunday.
“Nicho has had a great 18 months,” Alexander said on SEN. “I don’t know if one performance rules you out of the side. It’s certainly worth talking about. Many would say, ‘That’s it’ … but he’s got a fair bit of credit in the bank.”
More to come …
