‘The civil test’: Beveridge hopes AFL will turn focus to intent

By Roy Ward

Western Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge hopes the AFL eventually adopts a “civil test” and focuses on punishing players who intend to hurt an opponent rather than accidental incidents which result in head knocks.

Marcus Bontempelli has avoided a suspension for his collision with Houston in the second term of Port Adelaide’s 22-point win over the Bulldogs at Marvel Stadium.

Dixon, Butters star as Power make it 10 straight

By Steve Barrett

In case you missed it, last night Port Adelaide stretched their remarkable club record winning streak into double digits and threw the Western Bulldogs’ finals prospects into real doubt with a hard-earned 22-point victory on Friday night.

The Bulldogs matched the AFL’s most in-form outfit for large stretches but the Power’s superior class in the clutch and weaponry across the ground shone through.

From the latter stages of the first quarter onwards, Port were able to ward off the best efforts of the Bulldogs who, following their third successive defeat, could find themselves outside the top eight by the end of the weekend.

Greetings, everybody

By Ronny Lerner

Hello everyone and welcome to the Round 13 edition of our live, rolling Saturday AFL blog.

With the return of Thursday night footy, and the blockbuster King’s Birthday clash on Monday, it’s a less hectic Saturday than usual with just the three games taking place.

We first head to the MCG where the battling Hawks take on league heavyweights the Brisbane Lions who are still smarting after their seven-game winning streak was snapped by Adelaide in their last game.

The twilight clash pits those same Crows against the injury-ravaged Eagles at Adelaide Oval.

And bringing us home tonight are Fremantle and Richmond from Optus Stadium in a match that looms as the pick of the bunch today.
