The Canberra native was looking increasingly likely to miss his second straight Grand Slam and on Tuesday night it was confirmed.

Tennis journalist Jose Morgado wrote: “Nick Kyrgios, who initially planned to play Roland Garros in 2023, just withdrew from the event. He was so close from the top 10 last year when he traveled to Tokyo for the ATP 500. Didn’t play a single official match since.”

Kyrgios underwent knee surgery earlier in the year, an injury that forced him to withdraw from the Australian Open.

“It’s not looking likely,” Kyrgios’ agent Daniel Horsfall on Tuesday told the Sydney Morning Herald about his chances of a return.

“We are trying everything we can to have Nick ready on court as soon as possible.”

Despite the withdrawal of Kyrgios, Aussies will feature heavily in the mens draw with Alex de Minaur, Thanasi Kokkinakis, Jason Kubler, Alexei Popyrin, Christopher O’Connell, Jordan Thompson and Max Purcell.

Kyrgios has been building for a return to the professional circuit, but his return will be delayed again as all eyes now turn to Wimbledon.

The mercurial Aussie enjoyed a stellar 2022 that saw him reach his first Grand Slam final on the grass courts in England.

His return to centre court will attract fans far and wide with the Aussie arguably the biggest drawcard on the ATP roster.

Kyrgios found himself in the limelight this month when his mother was allegedly held at gunpoint as a man stole his bright green tesla.

ACT Police said a 32-year-old Canberra man threatened Mr Kyrgios’ mother Noralia with a long-barrel gun and demanded she hand over the keys to her son’s $191,000 Tesla at about 8:30am.

Mr Kyrgios is said to have tracked his car via the Tesla app and imposed a speed limit which allowed police to find and follow the vehicle.

ACT police raided a property in Canberra’s south on Tuesday afternoon as a part of their investigations into the incident.

The French Open gets underway from May 28.
