Twist in Dragons’ coaching hunt as Bellamy’s Storm call sees new frontrunner emerge

Former Dragons enforcer Jason Ryles has reportedly sat down with Dragons officials, firming as Anthony Griffin’s replacement at the Red V.

Ryles has previously been touted as the next Storm coach if Craig Bellamy decides to call it quits on an illustrious career and Billy Slater declines the role.

However, according to the SMH, many within the Melbourne club expect the experienced coach to hold his position for another season.

Now Ryles has been propelled back into the frame for the Dragons’ head coaching role despite club officials making it clear no formal interviews have been scheduled.

According to the report, the 44-year-old can depart his current contract as Roosters assistant, which expires at the end of 2024, early if Trent Robinson is given notice.

He was understood to have concerns about the Dragons job due the club’s struggles but would seek a five-year deal to afford him the time to turn things around.

Griffin, meanhwile was informed he would have to reapply for his own job at the start of the season and since the Dragons have languished, winning only two games.

Ryles is reportedly Dragons powerbrokers’ priority option to take over next season, with former players Ben Hornby and Dean Young also in contention.
