AFL ROUND 9 FIXTURE AND TEAMS (All times AEST)

RICHMOND V GEELONG

Friday May 12, 7:20pm at the MCG

Tigers’ Round 8 Team

B: N.Broad, D.Grimes – C, N.Balta

HB: D.Rioli, N.Vlastuin, L.Baker

C: K.McIntosh, T.Taranto, J.Ross

HF: M.Pickett, D.Prestia, J.Graham

F: S.Ryan, D.Martin, J.Riewoldt

FOLL: B.Miller, J.Hopper, S.Bolton

I/C: J.Short,, N.Cumberland, H.Ralphsmith, J.Clarke, (R.Mansell sub)

EMG: T.Dow J.Bauer

IN: D.Prestia, J.Graham, H.Ralphsmith

OUT: T.Sonsie (Omitted), T.Young (Injured), T.Cotchin (Managed)

Team Tips: After claiming their first win over West Coast since Round 2, Damien Hardwick won’t feel inclined to make too many changes. Trent Cotchin should come back into the side after being managed, while Ivan Soldo will also be in the mix after being a late out with a foot issue. Noah Cumberland, who was originally dropped but got a late reprieve after Soldo missed, likely makes way after a quiet showing that saw him get subbed out. Hugo Ralphsmith and Judson Clarke could also be at risk of dropping out.

Cats’ Round 8 Team

B: M.O’Connor, E.Ratugolea, Z.Guthrie

HB: J.Kolodjashnij, T.Stewart, Z.Tuohy

C: I.Smith, M.Blicavs, M.Duncan

HF: O.Henry, J.Cameron, T.Bruhn

F: G.Miers, T.Hawkins, B.Close

FOLL: J.Ceglar, M.Holmes, P.Dangerfield – C

I/C: J.Bews, T.Atkins, M.Knevitt, S.Simpson, O.Dempsey

EMG: B.Parfitt, O.Mullin, C.Whyte

IN: Z.Tuohy, J.Ceglar

OUT: J.Bowes, G.Rohan, S.De Koning (all injured)

Team Tips: The Cats could have two forces changes, with Brad Close facing suspension andPatrick Dangerfield (hamstring) out. If Gary Rohan is eligible to return from injury, he could come straight back in, while Brandan Parfitt makes sense as a like-type replacement for Dangerfield. Oliver Dempsey, who was the sub last week, would also be in the frame.

Clarko & Fagan ‘failed by the process’ | 03:38

WEST COAST EAGLES V GOLD COAST

Friday May 12, 8:40pm at Optus Stadium

Eagles’ Round 8 Team

B: J.Rotham, T.Barrass – C, L.Duggan

HB: J.Jones, S.Hurn, A.Witherden

C: R.Ginbey, T.Kelly, J.Hunt

HF: X.O’Neill, J.Darling, L.Edwards

F: J.Petruccelle, O.Allen, J.Waterman

FOLL: B.Williams, D.Sheed, A.Gaff

I/C: L.Foley, C.West, G.Clark, J.Culley, Z.Trew

EMG: C.Chesser, H.Barnett, C.Jamieson

IN: D.Sheed

OUT: S.Petrevski-Seton (suspended), R.Bazzo (injured)

Team Tips: A brutal ACL injury to Jai Culley added to West Coast’s towering list of casualties setback to leave Adam Simpson’s side even more undermanned. Samo Petrevski-Seton will be free to return from suspension, while Harry Edwards and Brady Hough will also come into the frame if they’ve recovered from their respective injuries. Adam Simpson admitted Campell Chesser could’ve played last week despite being named an emergency in his return from a knee issue, so he too will be in the mix. Luke Foley, Greg Clark and Xavier O’Neill could face selection pressure depending on how much flexibility Simpson has.

Suns’ Round 8 Team

B: S.Lemmens, S.Collins, B.Long

HB: D.Macpherson, C.Ballard, W.Powell

C: B.Fiorini, D.Swallow, B.Ellis

HF: T.Berry, J.Lukosius, M.Rosas

F: B.Humphrey, B.King, M.Chol

FOLL: J.Witts – C, M.Rowell, N.Anderson

I/C: R.Atkins, L.Casboult, A.Davies, S.Flanders, J.Tsitas

EMG: H.Oea, A.Sexton, J.Stein

IN: T.Berry, L.Casboult, S.Flanders

OUT: A.Sexton (omitted), L.Weller, B.Ainsworth, N.Holman (all injured)

Team Tips: Despite a big collision with Melbourne’s Jacob van Rooyen, it’s believed Charlie Ballard has escaped serious injury and will be available to face the Eagles. Ben Long meanwhile suffered a corked buttock late in the loss to the Demons could be monitored. Gold Coast is otherwise in a strong position from a selective perspective with a near full healthy list — reflected by its VFL side’s strong form — and could welcome back Lachie Weller, Nick Holman and Ben Ainsworth from injury. It potentially leaves Alex Davies, Sean Lemmens and Tom Berry vulnerable at selection after quiet showings against Melbourne, while Jeremy Sharp (24 touches), Alex Sexton (five goals), Charlie Constable (26 touches) Joel Jeffrey (23 disposals, one goal) and Jy Farrar (26 touches) all put their hands up for a recall with strong showings in the twos.

SYDNEY SWANS V FREMANTLE

Saturday May 13, 1:45pm at the SCG

Swans’ Round 8 Team

B: R.Fox, T.McCartin, N.Blakey

HB: O.Florent, J.Lloyd, H.Cunningham

C: E.Gulden, C.Mills – C, J.Rowbottom

HF: W.Hayward, L.McDonald, R.Clarke

F: T.Papley, L.Franklin, I.Heeney

FOLL: P.Ladhams, L.Parker, Ch.Warner

I/C: B.Campbell, H.McLean, J.McInerney, M.Sheather, A.Francis

IN: R.Fox, J.McInerney, M.Sheather

OUT: D.Stephens, A.Sheldrick (all omitted)

Team Tips: Ruckman Peter Ladhams (shoulder/neck) could drop out of the side after copping a big knock in the first quarter against Collingwood, especially with Tom Hickey (nine disposals, one goal, 38 hit-outs in the VFL) waiting in the wings. Even if Hickey isn’t ready, Lachlan McAndrew could make his debut. Marc Sheather is set to miss with a knee injury, with Dylan Stephens (28 touches, nine tackles) and Will Gould (20 disposals, nine marks) most likely to come in.

Dockers’ Round 8 Team

B: B.Cox, A.Pearce – C, H.Young

HB: B.Walker, L.Ryan, J.Clark

C: J.Aish, C.Serong, M.Frederick

HF: M.Walters, L.Jackson, B.Banfield

F: S.Switkowski, J.Amiss, L.Schultz

FOLL: S.Darcy, A.Brayshaw, J.O’Meara

I/C: J.Treacy, N.O’Driscoll, N.Erasmus, E.Hughes, N.Fyfe

EMG: W.Brodie, K.Worner, S.Sturt

IN: M.Frederick, J.Treacy

OUT: M.Johnson (suspended), S.Sturt (omitted), W.Brodie (omitted)

Team Tips: After a big 69-point win over Hawthorn, the Dockers feel settled for now and appear likely to take the same 23 into this week. They only change they could make is bring Nat Fyfe into the 22 after he got through his return as the sub unscathed and even kicked a goal. Liam Henry (26 disposals) and Sam Sturt (24 touches, one goal) also put their hands up for selection with solid WAFL performances.

NORTH MELBOUBNRNE V PORT ADELAIDE

Saturday May 13, 2:10pm at Blundstone Arena

Kangaroos’ Round 8 Team

B: G.Logue, B.McKay, A.Corr

HB: L.McDonald – C, B.Drury, F.Perez

C: B.Scott, B.Cunnington, D.Tucker

HF: H.Sheezel, J.Simpkin, J.Stephenson

F: C.Zurhaar, N.Larkey, J.Ziebell

FOLL: T.Goldstein, L.Davies-Uniacke, C.Taylor

I/C: L.Shiels, M.Bergman, P.Curtis, J.Mahony, C Lazzaro

IN: B.Drury, F.Perez, L.Davies-Uniacke, M.Bergman, J.Mahony

OUT: C.Comben (injured), C.Coleman-Jones (injured), T.Powell (injured), D.Howe, K.Turner, A.Hall (all omitted)

Team Tips: After being subbed out for the second time in five games, Ben Cunnington’s spot could be up for grabs in favour of giving a game to younger player or otherwise, while Paul Curtis was also quiet against St Kilda. Callum Coleman-Jones could be free to return from concussion, while Will Phillips (23 touches) Eddie Ford (three goals), Daniel Howe (22 touches), Aaron Hall (31 disposals, six tackles) and Cooper Harvey (four goals) should all be in the mix after impressing in the VFL.

Power’s Round 8 Team

B: D.Houston, T.McKenzie, T.Jonas – C

HB: D.Byrne-Jones, A.Aliir, R.Burton

C: M.Bergman, T.Boak, R.Bonner

HF: J.Finlayson, C.Dixon, C.Rozee

F: Z.Butters, T.Marshall, S.Powell-Pepper

FOLL: B.Teakle, O.Wines, J.Horne-Francis

I/C: D.Williams, W.Drew, J.McEntee, J.Rioli, F.Evans

IN: T.Jonas, T.Marshall

OUT: X.Duursma (injured), O.Lord, J.Burgoyne (both omitted)

Team Tips: Skipper Tom Jonas was subbed out in the third quarter of the club’s win over Essendon with a sternum soreness and could be monitored this week. He’s not the only Port player under an injury cloud, with Zak Butters suffering a right knee knock late in the game. Junior Rioli also appears set for a stint on the sidelines after getting sent straight to the tribunal for his hit on Jordan Ridley. Kane Farrell is nearing his return from a jaw injury, and Jase Burgoyne could also be in the mix.

HAWTHORN V MELBOURNE

Saturday May 13, 4:35pm at the MCG

Hawks’ Round 8 Team

B: J.Weddle, J.Sicily – C, S.Frost

HB: W.Day, B.Hardwick, J.Impey

C: K.Amon, J.Worpel, H.Morrison

HF: T.Brockman, F.Greene, D.Moore

F: M.Lewis, L.Meek, C.Wingard

FOLL: N.Reeves, J.Ward, J.Newcombe

I/C: S.Mitchell, C.Nash, J.Scrimshaw, C.Macdonald, L.Bramble

EMG: F.Maginness, C.Mackenzie, S.Butler

IN: L.Meek, C.Macdonald

OUT: C.Jiath, L.Breust (both managed), M.Ramsden (omitted)

Team Tips: Hawthorn is set to regain Changkuoth Jiath and Luke Breust after they were both managed against Fremantle, while Max Ramsden responded to his axing with two goals from 21 touches in the VFL. Cam Mackenzie should return too after picking up 30 disposals and kicking a goal in the twos. Quite a few Hawks had limited impact against the Dockers, with Tyler Brockman and Josh Weddle seemingly most likely to face the selection axe.

Demons’ Round 8 Team

B: J.Lever, S.May, T.Rivers

HB: J.Bowey, H.Petty, M.Hibberd

C: J.Jordon, C.Oliver, L.Hunter

HF: E.Langdon, B.Fritsch, T.Sparrow

F: K.Chandler, B.Grundy, K.Pickett

FOLL: M.Gawn – C, C.Petracca, J.Viney

I/C: J.van Rooyen, A.Brayshaw, A.Neal-Bullen, J.McVee, J.Harmes

EMG: J.Harmes, B.Laurie, J.Schache, D.Turner

IN: H.Petty

OUT: J.Harmes (sub), J.Schache (omitted)

Team Tips: Pending the outcome of Tuesday night’s tribunal hearing, Jacob van Rooyen is Melbourne’s only forced change through suspension. If the youngster misses, expect Ben Brown (four goals) or Tom McDonald to come in. Daniel Turner was a late in for Michael Hibberd, and if the latter’s setback isn’t serious, he should reclaim his place in the 22. Christian Salem is nearing his return from injury, but likely comes back through the VFL.

BRISBANE LIONS V ESSENDON

Saturday May 13, 7:25pm at the Gabba

Lions’ Round 8 Team

B: B.Starcevich, J.Payne, K.Coleman

HB: C.McKenna, H.Andrews, R.Lester

C: J.Berry, Z.Bailey, H.McCluggage

HF: C.Cameron, J.Gunston, W.Ashcroft

F: L.McCarthy, J.Daniher, E.Hipwood

FOLL: O.McInerney, J.Dunkley, L.Neale – C

I/C: C.Rayner, H.Sharp, N.Answerth, D.Wilmot, J.Lyons

EMG: C.Ah Chee, J.Lyons, D.Fort, D.Joyce

IN: H.Sharp

OUT: D.Rich, D.Zorko (both injured)

Team Tips: The only injury concern out of Brisbane’s big win over Carlton was a leg problem to Keidean Coleman, but Lions coach Chris Fagan confirmed post-match it was only cramp. Darcy Gardiner is nearing his return from an adductor issue, but should come back through the twos. Meanwhile Jarryd Lyons (31 touches, one goal), Darcy Fort (20 disposals, 22 hit-outs), Rhys Mathieson (27 possessions, one goal), Kai Lohmann (16 touches, two goals) and Deven Robertson (31 disposals) all had big games in the seconds, but likely remain on the outside of this settled Lions side.

Bombers’ Round 8 Team

B: J.Kelly, B.Zerk-Thatcher, M.Redman

HB: A.McGrath, J.Ridley, K.Langford

C: D.Shiel, D.Parish, N.Martin

HF: B.Hobbs, S.Weideman, J.Caldwell

F: A.Davey Jnr, J.Stringer, A.McDonald-Tipungwuti

FOLL: S.Draper, Z.Merrett – C, W.Setterfield

I/C: A.Perkins, N.Hind, D.Heppell, A.Phillips, J.Menzie

IN: A.Davey Jnr, D.Heppell

OUT: S.Durham (suspended), M.D’Ambrosio, W.Snelling (both omitted)

Team Tips: A concussion will sideline Jordan Ridley and leave an Essendon defence already missing Jayden Laverde even more depleted. Massimo D’Ambrosio (24 touches, nine marks in the VFL) likely earns a reprieve after being omitted for the loss to Port and Will Snelling (19 touches, nine tackles) responded to his axing with a strong showing in the twos. With Sam Durham also eligible to return from suspension, it potentially leaves Alwyn Davey Jr and Nick Hind at risk of coming out of the side.

CARLTON V WESTERN BULLDOGS

Saturday May 13, 7:30pm at Marvel Stadium

Blues’ Round 8 Team

B: S.Docherty, Le.Young, N.Newman

HB: M.McGovern, J.Weitering, A.Saad

C: B.Acres, P.Cripps – C, E.Curnow

HF: S.Walsh, H.McKay, J.Silvagni

F: C.Durdin, C.Curnow, J.Motlop

FOLL: M.Pittonet, A.Cerra, G.Hewett

I/C: B.Kemp, A.Cincotta, O.Hollands, J.Honey, M.Kennedy

EMG: Z.Fisher, L.Cowan, L.Fogarty

IN: J.Motlop

OUT: M.Kennedy (sub), Z.Fisher (omitted)

Team Tips: There’s plenty for Michael Voss to ponder as his team’s season dwindles, with the Blues having lost three of their last four games. Matthew Kennedy impressed after coming on as the sub to potentially force his way into the 22, while Nic Newman faces a one-match ban and Josh Honey had limited impact. Matt Owies (3.4 from 17 disposals), Paddy Dow (25 disposals), Zac Fisher (28 touches) and Matt Cottrell (18 possessions, two goals) will all come into the frame. Tom De Koning seems likely to remain on the outer for now.

Bulldogs’ Round 8 Team

B: T.Duryea, L.Jones, R.Gardner

HB: B.Dale, A.Keath, E.Richards

C: O.Baker, M.Bontempelli – C, B.Williams

HF: B.Smith, J.Ugle-Hagan, C.Weightman

F: A.Jones, A.Naughton, R.Lobb

FOLL: T.English, J.Macrae, A.Treloar

I/C: J.Johannisen, C.Daniel, A.Scott, T.Liberatore, L.McNeil

EMG: R.West, L.Cleary, J.Sweet

IN: R.Gardner, T.Liberatore

OUT: T.McLean (Sub), T.O’Brien (Injured), L.McNeil (Omitted)

Team Tips: Another hamstring setback to Adam Treloar will sideline the gun midfielder in the only forced change for Luke Beveridge’s side that’s in the midst of a three-game winning streak including winning five of its last six. Last week’s sub Lachlan McNeil, Hayden Crozier (26 touches with 13 marks in the VFL), Mitch Hannan (17 disposals and two goals), Toby McLean (25 possessions), appear most likely to come into the 22.

‘He just looks like he can’t travel’ | 01:13

ADELAIDE V ST KILDA

Sunday May 14, 1:10pm at the Adelaide Oval

Crows’ Round 8 Team

B: T.Doedee, N.Murray, M.Michalanney

HB: B.Smith, J.Butts, M.Hinge

C: J.Soligo, J.Dawson – C, R.Sloane

HF: I.Rankine, C.Jones, J.Rachele

F: T.Walker, D.Fogarty, R.Thilthorpe

FOLL: R.O’Brien, R.Laird, B.Keays

I/C: L.Murphy, L.Pedlar, L.Sholl, W.Milera, M.Crouch

EMG: E.Himmelberg, P.Parnell, N.McHenry

IN: Nil

OUT: H.Schoenberg (sub)

Team Tips: The Crows will have to find a replacement for key defender Nick Murray, who was subbed out at half-time of the loss to Geelong with concussion. Not great timing considering the Saints are likely to get Max King back this week. With Jordon Butts likely to get the job on King, the Crows could bolster their defence by including Andrew McPherson or Josh Worrell, who both had strong SANFL games against North Adelaide. There’s also a view Josh Rachele could be due for a stint in the SANFL after a scoreless, eight-disposal outing against Geelong, although if he’d kicked straight in previous two outings they would’ve been big games. Patrick Parnell, Harry Schoenberg and Will Hamill would be in the mix to come into the side after strong SANFL games.

Saints’ Round 8 Team

B: J.Battle, D.Howard, C.Wilkie

HB: L.Stocker, J.Sinclair, N.Wanganeen-Milera

C: M.Wood, S.Ross, R.Byrnes

HF: M.Owens, B.Hill, J.Higgins

F: M.Phillipou, T.Membrey, J.Gresham

FOLL: R.Marshall, B.Crouch, J.Steele – C

I/C: H.Clark, D.Butler, B.Paton, C.Sharman, J.Bytel

OUT: Z.Cordy (omitted), M.Windhager (sub)

Team Tips: Star key forward Max King is in the frame to play his first senior match since badly injuring his shoulder in the summer. He’ll have to get through training this week, but Round 9 has been the target return date for a while now. He’ll be a welcome addition – and considering the lack of talls already in the side, don’t be surprised to see the least in-form Saint make way for King. St Kilda were breathing a huge sigh of relief after injuries suffered by star duo Rowan Marshall (ankle) and Jade Gresham (knee) late in their 30-point win over North Melbourne, but it sounds like they were deemed minor. The pair looks set to be fit for the Saints’ huge clash against the Crows at Adelaide Oval next Sunday.

COLLINGWOOD V GWS GIANTS

Sunday May 14, 4:40pm at the MCG

Magpies’ Round 8 Team

B: I.Quaynor, D.Moore – C, B.Maynard

HB: S.Pendlebury, N.Murphy, B.Frampton

C: J.Noble, J.De Goey, J.Daicos

HF: S.Sidebottom, B.Mihocek, J.Elliott

F: W.Hoskin-Elliott, A.Johnson, N.Daicos

FOLL: M.Cox, T.Adams, T.Mitchell

I/C: B.Hill, J.Crisp, B.McCreery, O.Markov, J.Ginnivan

IN: S.Pendlebury, M.Cox

OUT: N.Kreuger (injured), W.Kelly (sub)

Team Tips: Hard to see the Magpies making too many changes, although you sense Jack Ginnivan showed enough against Sydney to earn a spot in the starting 22 against the Giants. The small forward started as the sub against the Swans then had an immediate impact, booting one goal from six disposals and four score involvements. It could simply be a sub swap for the Pies, with Beau McCreery, Oleg Markov or Bobby Hill chances to start as the 23rd man. If they look to their VFL side, Finlay Macrae would be in the mix after a 26-disposal, 11-tackle and eight-clearance game against Williamston.

Giants’ Round 8 Team

B: I.Cumming, C.Idun, C.Brown

HB: L.Whitfield, J.Buckley, L.Ash

C: F.Callaghan, J.Kelly, R.Angwin

HF: B.Daniels, H.Himmelberg, C.Ward

F: T.Greene – C, J.Hogan, T.Bedford

FOLL: M.Flynn, T.Green, S.Coniglio

I/C: H.Perryman, A.Cadman, N.Haynes, X.O’Halloran, J.Peatling

EMG: D.Lloyd, J.Riccardi, J.Peatling, K.Briggs

IN: C.Ward

OUT: H.Rowston (sub), J.Peatling (omitted)

Team Tips: Should he be fit to return from an ankle injury, Toby Greene will be a welcome inclusion for the Giants. He could replace Ryan Angwin, who had an ankle issue against the Dogs, or Daniel Lloyd, who was the late inclusion for Greene. Might be time for No.1 pick Aaron Cadman to have a stint in the Giants’ VFL team to build some confidence. He was subbed out of Saturday night’s game after going goalless from three touches – and he was subbed out the week before. Jake Riccardi, who kicked three goals in the VFL on the weekend, could be due for an AFL return, while second-round draftee Max Gruzewski could be considered after booting 13.6 from his past five VFL games. The Giants will also have to cisnderi veteran Phil Davis, who had 26 disposals and 10 marks against Footscray in the VFL, as well as Josh Fahey, who kicked one goal from 23 disposals in the same game.
