Walsh in doubt for Pies clash
By Peter Ryan
Star Blues midfielder Sam Walsh is in doubt to play in the blockbuster against Collingwood.
The exact nature of the injury isn’t clear, but a source said he had been managed all week but trained on Saturday as he pushed to get up for the vital game.
The Blues have been juggling a number of injuries to key players throughout the season; George Hewett has missed a large chunk of the season with a back complaint, and Matthew Kennedy missed two weeks with concussion before suffering a lisfranc injury. Ruckman Marc Pittonet and defender Jacob Weitering were also notable absentees throughout the middle part of the season.
Rutten waits to learn fate
It’s not all on-field news to watch today. The Bombers are due to decide coach Ben Rutten’s fate at a meeting today.
Rutten said after Saturday night’s 66-point loss to Richmond he wanted to complete the final year of his contract in 2023, insisting he is the right man to continue leading the Bombers but admitting he is “disappointed” by how he has been treated by the club.

It all comes down to this
Hello and welcome to our live coverage of the final day of the home-and-away season for 2022.
There is plenty up for grabs today. It all starts from 1.10pm when the Bulldogs take on the Hawks in Tasmania. The Dogs, who trail the eighth-placed Blues by less than one percentage point, must win to keep their finals dream alive. But that dream would be shattered by a Carlton win (or draw) against the Pies at the MCG, starting at 3.20. Collingwood have plenty to play for, with a top-four berth at stake. The Swans play St Kilda in the last game of the round at 4.40pm, with a top-four spot also on the line. What a huge day of footy we have ahead!
