‘They’re caravans – getting towed everywhere’: Great’s epic Suns slap as Demons fire early – LIVE AFL

Gold Coast has an opportunity to claim a significant scalp on its home turf, with a crucial clash against Melbourne at Heritage Bank Stadium on Saturday night.

The Suns have won three games so far this season against the slow-starting Cats, Kangaroos and Tigers — and in all four of their losses, they’ve conceded at least 100 points.

The Demons (5-2) are in ominous offensive form, scoring 96-plus points in all of their past four wins and are close to full strength.

QUARTER-BY-QUARTER MATCH REPORT

The Suns had the early territory dominance, but it was Melbourne rookie Jacob van Rooyen who got the Demons on the board first.

“Not the start the Suns would have wanted … they weren’t able to put any scoreboard pressure on,” commentator Jason Dunstall lamented.

“This is what happens on the rebound.”

Kysaiah Pickett added Melbourne’s second as goal scoring accuracy became an issue for the Suns.

“We’ve seen poor goal kicking cost teams games already this year,” Dunstall said of Sean Lemmens’ shock miss.

“You can’t be missing from 30 metres out directly in front – not against the good teams.”

When Brodie Grundy “picked” Mabior Chol’s pocket – despite the Sun appearing to do enough to secure the mark – the Demons were out by three goals.

It took a moment of magic from Malcolm Rosas to get the Suns on the board, but commentator David King was less than impressed with the work rate of Gold Coast’s mids.

“As honest as they’ve been, they’re just caravans at the moment – getting towed everywhere,” he lamented.
