Will Levis is unexpectedly sliding down at the 2023 NFL Draft.
Through the entire first round, including by several teams that needed quarterbacks, Levis has was not selected.
Levis was part of a wild story earlier this week, when a Reddit rumour started by user “SaleAgreeable2834” claimed that Levis was telling friends and family that the Panthers had informed him that he’d be picked first overall.
The gambling odds for Levis to go first overall swung wildly, going from 50-to-1 to 5-to-1 in a matter of hours, before stabilising at 10-to-1 a little bit later.
“I don’t want to speak on it too much. But just don’t believe everything you read on the Internet,” Levis said Wednesday in response to the Reddit rumours.
Former Alabama quarterback Bryce Young wound up going first overall to the Panthers.
Levis, 23, played two seasons at Penn State before transferring to Kentucky in 2021.
This past season, he completed 65.4 percent of his passes, throwing for 8.5 yards per attempt with 19 touchdown passes and 10 interceptions.
Kentucky went 7-4 in games started by Levis this past season, with a 2-4 record in the SEC in Levis’ starts.
It has been a long wait for Levis, who many mock drafts had going in the top five.
A report from ESPN claims that one team called Levis’ left toe injury, which caused him to miss games last year, as “problematic”. That may go some way to explaining his slide.
When it comes to landing spots for Levis in the second round, the Seattle Seahawks (37th overall), Las Vegas Raiders (38th overall) and Tennessee Titans (41st) are all options.
The quarterback-needy Texans selected Ohio State signal caller C.J. Stroud at second overall, and then traded up with the Cardinals to pick Alabama linebacker Will Anderson at third.
Meanwhile, the Colts, also in the market for a quarterback, selected Anthony Richardson out of Florida fourth overall.
