‘F**k off now’: Wighton calls out vile social media abuse after shock South Sydney switch

Outgoing Raiders gun Jack Wighton has been subjected to racial abuse on social media after it was announced he would join the Rabbitohs from 2024.

According to The Daily Telegraph, the NRL Integirty Unit is set to investigate the vile tirade which the 30-year-old shared on Instagram.

“Stooping low here, for what reason little coward,” Wighton wrote on top of a screenshot of the direct messages.

Round 9

Wighton will join South Sydney from 2024, shunning multimillion dollar offers from both the Raiders and Dolphins.

He will link up with close friend Latrell Mitchell next season and the gun fullback has also called out social media attacks in the past.

The messages sent to Wighton label him a “weak gutted dog” and a “f***ing dog c**t”.

The perpretrator also told Wighton to “f**k off now”.

NRL stars from around the game have also united in support of Wighton, who will join South Sydney on a four-year deal from 2024 onwards.The support came alongside a powerful post from Wighton’s Raiders halves partner Jamal Fogarty, who wrote alongside an image of the Indigenous pair: “We need strong consequences/actions for this disgraceful behaviour and show the country we don’t accept racism. Support your players #saynotoracism”.

Wighton’s future Rabbitohs teammate Cody Walker wrote: “Rubbish behaviour.”

Raiders winger Jordan Rapana wrote: “Spot on my brah.”

Storm halfback Jahrome Hughes responded by writing, “Well said bro.”

Former NRL star Greg Bird wrote about the abuser: “Small minded scum. I hope you’re good down there kid. Go the Raiders!”

Roosters hooker Brandon Smith showed his support by writing: “With you lads all the way. Low human man.”

Sharks winger Ronaldo Mulitalo wrote: “Weak.”

NRL chief executive Andrew Abdo said the online troll will be tracked down.

“It’s absolutely abhorrent that we have people that talk to anyone in that way, whether they are a footballer or a member of the public,” Abdo said.

“The integrity unit will now investigate to try to track down the person and take the appropriate action.”

Earlier in the season, Mitchell was subject to racial abuse during the Rabbitohs and Panthers’ clash at BlueBet Stadium.

The boy was identified as wearing a Sydney Roosters jersey over a hoodie and departed the ground after Rabbitohs players called on stadium security to step in.

Abdo once again had zero tolerance for racial abuse at the time.

“You’re not welcome in our game,” he said.

“You’re going to be called out. You’re going to be called out by players, by fans, by officials and eventually it becomes eradicated.”
