Banned flyer’s long-awaited NRL return date confirmed after four year hiatus

Bronson Xerri has been informed he can return to NRL training with the Bulldogs on September 24 after he was hit with a four-year ban.

The 22-year-old was hit with the lengthy suspension by Sport Integrity Australia and the NRL in November 2019 after returning a positive test to multiple banned substances.

Now Xerri will be able to return to train with his new teammates two months before his ban is scheduled to end according to The Daily Telegraph.

The Bulldogs announced in December 2022 they had signed Xerri on a two-year deal for 2024 and 2025.

“The club is continuing to work with the NRL Integrity Unit to ensure full compliance is undertaken, before Bronson is able to return to the sport in November 2023,” A statement read.

Under guidelines set out by Sport Integrity Australia, athletes issued a ban are allowed to resume training two months before their ban’s end.

Xerri burst onto the scene with the Sharks, scoring 13 tries in 22 games before he was awarded the club’s rookie of the year award.

Xerri has reportedly been sticking to a strict routine including monthly drug tests as he eyes an NRL return.

He has also been training with renowned spring coach Roger Fabri three days a week, who scrapped his own accreditation to work with the banned star.

Now Xerri will be able to train at the Belmore Sports Ground later this year, likely on his own if his teammates don’t qualify for the finals series.
