AFL great Matthew Lloyd has blasted Western Bulldogs defender Zaine Cordy as “absolutely embarrassing” after photos emerged of him at the club’s Mad Monday celebrations.
Cordy was photographed in a poor state outside the Railway Hotel in Yarraville on Monday afternoon.
Night had not yet fallen when Tom Liberatore and Ryan Gardner had to lift a distressed Cordy off the ground and help him into a taxi.

“I hated this from the Mad Monday at the Western Bulldogs. This is a horrible look for any league footballer,” Essendon champion Lloyd declared on Nine’s Footy Classified.
“This is Zaine Cordy, on the Mad Monday. Now I’ll ask Zaine; would you ever see your captain this state? Would you ever see (Scott) Pendlebury, Lachie Neale, all the great players? (Christian) Petracca, (Clayton) Oliver?
“That’s embarrassing. Absolutely embarrassing for a league footballer to be in that state, even at end-of-season drinks.”
Veteran journalist Caroline Wilson replied: “I hadn’t seen those photos up until then.
“Players go out and get blind celebrating his season, unfortunate he’s been photographed, but you don’t think he should (have done that)?”
Lloyd said: “Be in control. Imagine you’re a young first-year player looking at that, and he’s been in the system for nearly 10 years.”
Wilson agreed: “It is disappointing.
“They’ve had some serious off-field discipline issues over the last couple of years, the Bulldogs, and that still continues to haunt them, to dog them, doesn’t it?”
The Bulldogs finished eighth this year, losing their elimination final from 41 points up, after making the Grand Final in 2021.
