Cats ruck returns after four-year absence as No.1 AFLW draft pick: See the selections

Erin Hoare has returned to Geelong, where she was an inaugural AFLW player, as the No.1 pick in the 2023 supplementary draft.

Due to the two seasons played in 2022, the league held a draft for players born only in 2004 or earlier, with the best 2004-born players taken in last June’s draft and many debuting in the season which soon followed.

The Cats received the first pick in the draft in a trade with Sydney which saw them give up young midfielder Laura Gardiner.

With the selection they regained 194cm ruck Hoare, who came across from Melbourne before the Cats’ inaugural AFLW season in 2019, and led the AFLW in average hitouts per game.
