‘Nobody’s watching’: Three-time Masters champ takes aim at LIV with all-time comparison

Three-time Masters champion Nick Faldo has ripped into LIV and the rebel cohort set to compete at Augusta, claiming they shouldn’t “get all uppity” at those who object to their return.

Faldo will attend the world-famous tournament as a commentator for British network Sky Sports, just seven months after he bid a teary farewell having left CBS after a remarkable 16-year commentary stint.

Although the Brit may be returning to the microphone, he will have to no doubt share his take on the controversy surrounding the LIV stars competing at The Masters.

17 players from the Saudi-backed breakaway tour received invites to compete, including the likes of Bryson DeChambeau, Phil Mickelson, Patrick Reed and Aussie star Cameron Smith to name just four.

There were questions as to whether LIV players would be allowed to compete in the majors given they had left the PGA Tour, however the powers that be at Augusta reiterated any player who passed the criteria would be invited.

But Faldo doesn’t quite share the same stance.

“Hey, if you want to go and do something different, fine,” Faldo told The Telegraph.

“But this [playing in the Masters] is a bit like: You had a job in a store and now you’ve got a new one, then you’re calling the store demanding you get a bonus.

“I’ve got nothing against these guys, the grass is greener on the other side and all that.

“But don’t get all uppity if people object when you come back.”

Faldo also took aim at LIV’s lack of viewership in its second season, with shows like World’s Funniest Animals pulling in more eyeballs than the rival golf tour.

“All this ‘we’re going to supercharge the excitement,’” Faldo said.

“Well, we haven’t seen any excitement because nobody’s watching.”
