Aussie duo Jackson Irvine and Connor Metcalfe had contrasting fortunes in St Pauli’s 2. Bundesliga clash against Greuther Furth.
Irvine put the ball into the back of his own net in the 52nd minute when he tried to header away a cross from the right side of the box but failed to do so, gifting Furth a 2-1 lead.
However, Metcalfe came on in the 79th minute and made an almost-instant impact.
The Aussie received the ball from Igor Matanovic on the edge of the area before unleashing a sweet strike along the ground that beat Furth goalkeeper Andreas Linde to level the score at 2-2 in the 85th minute.
While there weren’t any other Aussies who found themselves on the scoresheet, Jack Iredale played a key role for League One outfit Bolton Wanderers in their 3-1 victory over Charlton Athletic.
Iredale chalked up an assist as Bolton bounced back after two consecutive defeats.
After securing a deadline day switch, Ajdin Hrustic was an unused substitute for Hellas Verona in their 2-1 win over Sampdoria but the Aussie star will certainly get more gametime in the not-too-distant future.
Fellow deadline day mover Tyrese Francois did manage to get some action as he came on in the 58th minute for Croatian side HNK Gorica in a 2-1 defeat to Varazdin.
In worrying news, Awer Mabil was left out of Cadiz’s matchday squad entirely for a 3-0 loss against Celta Vigo.
With only two months left before the World Cup, it’s not good news for the Socceroos winger who needs every possible minute to ensure he’s on the plane to Qatar.

In the Old Firm derby, Aaron Mooy came on as a 73rd minute substitute as Celtic demolished Rangers 4-0.
Unfortunately for Alex Gersbach, he couldn’t keep a clean sheet for Grenoble Foot 38 in a 1-0 loss to fellow Ligue 2 outfit Amiens but the Aussie left-back played the full match.
Aussie duo James Jeggo and Jason Davidson couldn’t lift Belgian outfit AS Eupen to victory over Kortrijk in 1-0 loss, but both logged 88 minutes of action.
