Scottie Scheffler could soon be the world No.1 again as he leads the WM Phoenix Open going into the closing stages on Monday (AEDT).

Scheffler, the event’s defending champion, was leading by one shot after 14 holes at 18-under following a clinical eagle at the par-five 13th.

He will jump Rory McIlroy as the world’s best male player should he win the event, worth A$29 million with a top prize of A$5,210,000.

In pursuit is world No.3 Jon Rahm, four back at 14-under, while Australian Jason Day’s latest comeback is gaining some momentum.

After starting the final round with three straight birdies, Day launched himself up the leaderboard and into the top five, completed by Justin Thomas in fourth.

Day is tied with Sungjae Im at 11-under after 15 holes, and Thomas 13-under in the clubhouse.

The highlight of the day, however, belongs to Rickie Fowler, who fired an ace at the par-three seventh.
