Finch had already retired from one-day internationals for Australia late last year but remained skipper of the Aussie’s unsuccessful T20 World Cup campaign on home soil.

The 36-year-old’s imminent announcement also means Australia will be on the lookout for a new T20 captain with another World Cup on the horizon in 2024.

Finch will retire as one of the nation’s finest white-ball players having been a member of the triumphant 2015 World Cup team and also the man who led Australia to their first T20 World Cup in 2021.

He also retires with the honour of no other cricketer scoring more T20 runs at a higher strike rate than him and has ammassed over 8500 runs across the three formats in his international career.

Finch represented Australia in 103 T20 matches in addition to 146 ODI fixtures as well as five Tests.

Although Finch is set to hang up the gloves on playing for Australia, he is likely to continue playing T20 cricket around the world.
