Drama erupted in the fourth round of Liam Wilson’s world title fight against Mexico’s Emanuel Navarrete, when the reigning champion was given 27 seconds to recover from a knockdown.
Main Event’s Ben Damon reports that No Limit will file an official protest over the incident.
The Australian sent Navarrete to the floor following a series of vicious right hooks with 48 seconds remaining in the fourth term, with the 28-year-old quickly returning to his feet.
But as he rested against the corner post, Navarrete spat his mouthguard onto the floor while referee Chris Flores continued the standing count.
However, Flores helped steady Navarrete and picked up the boxer’s mouthguard before indicating for the fight to resume. In total, he was given 27 seconds to recover from the knockdown.
The bizarre sequence of events didn’t go unnoticed, with social media erupting after the incident.

Wilson had another blitz that rocked Navarrete in the sixth round which ultimately ended with the Aussie literally on top of his rival, although Flores did not award it as a knockdown.
Navarrete was ultimately crowned the victor via TKO in the ninth round, retaining the WBO super-featherweight title and continuing his mind-boggling 10-year winning streak. His record improves to 37-1 with 31 KOs.
