Four Australians have been named in the ICC Men’s Test Team of the Year, but Pat Cummins has been ignored as captain in favour of Ashes rival Ben Stokes.
On Tuesday evening, the International Cricket Council unveiled its annual Test Team of the Year, chosen by a panel of media representatives, with Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, Nathan Lyon and Cummins named in the starting XI.

No other nation had more than three representatives, as Australia dominated the Test arena in 2022 with just one loss in 11 matches.
Khawaja, who wasn’t in Australia’s first-choice Test side at the start of 2022, finished the calendar year with 1080 runs 67.50, including four centuries, partnering with West Indies captain Kraigg Brathwaite at the top of the order.
Labuschagne’s recent dominance against the West Indies was enough for him to retain the No. 3 spot for a third-consecutive year, while teammate Steve Smith was unfortunate to miss out.
Lyon, who finished 2022 at the equal leading wicket-taker with 47 scalps at 29.06, was picked as the lone strike spinner, beating out England tweaker Jack Leach and Sri Lankan phenom Prabath Jayasuriya.
Meanwhile, England veteran James Anderson, who turned 40 last year, was named for a fifth time after taking 36 wickets at 19.80.
Jonny Bairstow and Stokes were also picked following England’s remarkable resurgence in 2022, winning nine of its 10 Tests since Brendon McCullum took after as coach.
