FA set to reveal full Melbourne Victory punishment for horrific derby scenes

Football Australia Chief Executive Officer James Johnson is set to deliver the verdict of the Show Cause Notice issued to Melbourne Victory following the disgusting scenes at the Melbourne Derby in December.

Johnson will speak at a media conference expected to be held at 2pm AEDT.

Chaos ensued when more than 150 Victory fans stormed the field at AAMI Park during the first half of the game, with City goalkeeper Tom Glover allegedly assault by a man wielding a metal bucket.

FA had already handed out two life bans — one of which was the infamous ‘Bucket Man’ — and dished out several other bans on January 6.

As it stands, 17 fans have received bans ranging from a life ban to 10 years.

Victory also were hit with several other interim sanctions by FA on December 23 and expire on January 15 inclusive.

The A-League club was not permitted to sell tickets to home games, although Victory members would be granted entry.

Travelling Victory fans would also not be allowed to attend any away matches.

FA described the measures as “an essential step” while they continued the show cause determination process.

“Football Australia does not wish to penalise football fans during this time; however our priority is to ensure the safety and enjoyment of everyone within the venue on match days and that any unacceptable behaviour by spectators are not repeated at any football match or event ever again,” FA said in a statement on December 23.

“We believe these measures will achieve this.”
